Agnes is the only daughter of John McClure of Edinburgh, Scotland[1]. John McClure was a weathy landowner in Scotland and implicated in the "1715 Jacobite Rebellion". He then put his property into the hands of some friends and fled to the New World. He received rents from those lands until his death. Not long after the death of her father, Agnes' mother and only brother, John, also died leaving Agnes to be put into service until she was married.
Agnes married John Strong on 2 Sept 1759 and, in 1766, Agnes, her husband, and 3 young children removed to Addison, Vermont, becoming one of the first families to settle there. On 14 Jun 1766, just 4 months after the family arrived, John, Jr. became the first English child born in Addison. Among their children are:
