My Acadian ancestors begin with Antoine Belliveau when he came from France around 1650!

I started researching my Acadian Ancestry with the help of a family tree which was done by my Grandmothers aunt in 1960. So much more information is available now compared to then but she did a great job!

My direct line includes Pierre (Piau) Belliveau who helped many Acadians escape expulsion in 1755 and, from what I understand, is somewhat an Acadian Folk hero! I would like to discover as much as I can about my ancestors and to hear from any distance cousins if you’re out there!

Hi Timothy,

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful?

Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, no matter how small. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back to me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier.

You can reach me by using the reply link for this comment or send a private message from my profile by clicking my name. See you in the branches,

P.S. Did you discover that the Tags you follow (names in green boxes) are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? They also control the information which is included in the activity reports which you receive from WikiTree. You can add up to 20 total, or delete some if you are receiving irrelevant information.

Hi Timothy,

I noticed that you posted on Pierre Belliveau's profile. I'm sure that the profile manager will be looking at that.

You are welcome to use our database and G2G Forum for research. If you are interested in collaborating on the Belliveau family and contributing to our shared tree, then you should upgrade. There is a link under your name, next to Guest Member on your profile to Upgrade

If you choose to upgrade and you have information and sources to help improve the profile, your collaboration with the profile manager would go a long way in making improvements. If this is your ancestor, you will be able to connect the profile to your branch of the tree. With your help, we can improve the story of your ancestors.

Thanks so much for the information! I have upgraded and now have a few questions on how to add people/connect myself to existing profiles.

So my grandmothers grandfather was the last person born in New Brunswick, Canada (Francois Belliveau born 1866) but moved to Woonsocket, RI at some point where he married his wife and chose to live.

Now...if they don’t exist I would create profiles for my mother, grandmother, and great grandfather etc. until I can link to an existing profile? It doesn’t look like Francois has a profile that exists but maybe I haven’t found it yet.

Thanks for all your help and I look forward to adding the information I have and expanding the Belliveau family tree!!

Timothy, you are correct. Just begin adding each generation beginning with your parents, grandparents, etc. During the process of creating a profile, if there are possible duplicates a list of possibilities will pop up. Just check through those and choose one if it fits - if none fit, then just continue with creating the profile. As you get back into the Acadian profiles, you will find many of them already here and you can just connect to them.

Again, welcome to WikiTree. Please feel free to ask when you have questions. There are many here who are willing and ready to help!
