Biography
James McCormack was born about 1841 in Carrowkeel, Elphin. He was the son of John McCormack and Catherine Lynch. He had at least three siblings, John, Thomas and Ellen.
His father died sometime between 1858 and 1864, when James was between seventeen and twenty three years of age. James could neither read or write.
James married Margaret Quinn of Cummeen on 17 Dec 1871 in Creeve Church. Their witnesses were Peter McDermott and Margaret Hanly. James's address was given as Kye on the marriage certificate[1].
