Biography

Cecily was the fourth of nine children in the family of John and Hanora Laughlin McCormick. An older sister died in infancy before she was born. She was likely born on the family farm in Peel Township, Wellington County.

Cecily is not listed with her family on the 1891 census when she would have been ten years old. It is not clear when she entered the religious order, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, where she took the name Sister Mary Patrice. Her younger sister Anna also entered the same religious order, as Sr. Mary Bridilia

She died in the Notre Dame Convent in Watertown, Hamilton Municipality at age 72, and is buried in the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Burlington, Ontario.[1]

Research Notes

A death record for Sicely McCormick who died at 1 year and 3 mos. on February 14, 1883, suggests the baby is the Cecily McCormick who was born in November 1881. A birth record for the Cecily McCormick who became sister Patrice has not been found. It is possible she was born shortly after, and named for, the baby who died.
