She was the "foster" daughter, not the biological daughter, of Isaac Arledge and Sarah McCormick Arledge. Isaac was the cousin of Amos Arledge, Jonathan's father. Harriett McCormick Arledge's daughter, Mary Ann Arledge Hill, wrote in a letter to her son, Jonathan Arledge Hill, that Harriett was the daughter of Elishia Jones and Priscelley McCormick. It is likely that Priscelley McCormick was the sister of Sarah McCormick Arledge. Isaac Arledge (cousin of Amos Arledge) and Sarah McCormick Arledge did not have children of their own. Their land was inherited by Jonathan A. Arledge and Harriett McCormick Arledge. The section of the land where the cemetery is located was inherited by Levi Arledge. Please maintain four parents for her. She has birth parents (McCormick) but was raised by Isaac and Sallie Arledge.
Harriett was the foster daughter of Isaac Arledge and Sally McCormick Arledge. She may have been Sally's niece.
According to some sources, Harriett McCormick Arledge's daughter, Mary Ann Arledge Hill, wrote in a letter to her son, Jonathan Arledge Hill, that Harriett was the daughter of Elishia Jones and Priscelley McCormick.
from Jenniekz (posted on Ancestry.com): The letter [Mary Ann Arledge Hill] sent to her son in Idaho, noting Elishia Jones and Priscelley McCormick as the parents of her mother, was postmarked Walker, N.C., and the return letters to her from her son were addressed to the Walker post office. Walker was never a community. The post office served the residents of the Bright's Creek and Green River Cove communities in Polk County.
