Biography

This is a recently adopted profile.

Hugh was the son of James McCormick. Some researchers suggest his mother was Sarah Welsh, however, more evidence is needed to confirm or reject this suggestion.

Among these names occurs that of James McCormick, of whom is known little else, save that he was the progenitor of the family of that name, who somewhat later emigrated to America.

He had several children, of whom two were :

  2. ID 2. Thomas McCormick (1st). B., 1702. D., 1762. M., Elizabeth Carruth 1728. [1]

William Henry Egle's Pennsylvania Genealogies; Chiefly Scotch-Irish and German (Harrisburg, PA: Harrisburg Publishing Co., 1896), supports the birth and death dates currently in the profile (1695-1735), and lists four (not five) children, with dates different from those on Ancestry.com: John, b. 1718; James, b. 1721; Samuel, b. 1723; Hugh, b. 1726. (Egle, 1896: 440).

In regards to Hugh McCormick, Ancestry.com shows his spouse as Margaret Donough who was born in 1701 and died in 1759. It also shows he had five children: Hugh McCormick b. 1727 - 1777, James McCormick b. 1726-1823, Dennis McCormick b. 1727-1782, John McCormick 1710-1782, and Samuel McCormick 1725-1823.

Have you found any further information to confirm this? I am trying to find census information to show that this is the correct person and his children are listed correctly.
