Biography

James J. "Jerry" McCormick was born in about December 1861 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of William McCormick and Bridget McFadden.

He played professional baseball, debuting with the Baltimore Orioles on 1 May 1883, per the Baseball Almanac[1]. He also played for the Philadelphia Keystones and Washington Nationals, playing his last pro game on 19 October 1884.[1] Positionally, he played 3rd base, 1st base and left field during his career, and he had a .262 batting average.[2]

He is found on the 1900 U.S. Census living with his sister Ellen in Ward 27 of Philadelphia. They are both single, born in PA, parents born in Ireland. He is a bartender.[3]

On 11 Sep 1905, James Mccormack (42 and single) died, and was buried on 14 Sep 1905 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William and Bridget McCormack. James' occupation was listed as a labourer. [4]

James died (age 42 years 8 months 11 days) on 11 September 1905 of tuberculosis and was buried on the 14th in Old Cathedral Cemetery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States.[5][6][7] His death notice identifies him as a brother-in-law of Thomas Gilmartin.[8]

Date of birth on some records conflicts with that of his sister. Date used is based on his death certificate.
