Biography

Private Jacob McCoy served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Dec 20, 1862
Mustered out: Oct 31, 1864

Jacob McCoy was born on April 29, 1834, in Grainger County, Tennessee, USA. His parents were David McCoy and Catharine Wolfe McCoy. [1] [2] [3]

For the 1840 and 1850 census, he was in his parent's household. [4] [5]

He married Nancy Hawes on January 24, 1856 in Butler County, Kentucky. [6] [7]

They were excluded from a church in Christian County, Missouri, because of their first child's birth date. [8]

After that they moved back to Hancock County, Tennessee. [9]

Then their child Gideon died and they moved back to Christian County, Missouri, where Jacob was drafted for the Civil War, served a total of 168 days, and was a prisoner. Three more children followed. [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]

Jacob died on March 02, 1912, in Christian County, Missouri, His Memorial Stone, plus a new one, are in the Old Boston Cemetery, in Oldfield, Christian County, Missouri. [18] [19]

3. Tradition has Jacob with an 1855 marriage to Nancy Frazier (n.d., n.p.) given the birth date of Francis Marion McCoy, Jacob and Nancy's oldest child. Actually, Jacob and Nancy ran away to Butler County, Kentucky, then returned for the birth of their first child. But, his name is indexed as Joseph B. (1856 marriage, 1857 church).

1887 tax: MO Christian Co, Sparta, Personal Property Tax through 1891.
