Biography

Mary was born about 1770. Her parents were David Johnson and Agatha Moorman. It appears as though she married John Armstrong Baker at a young age, and they had six children. She had two sisters who also married into the Baker family. Mary passed away about 1814.

Research Notes

There are 3 profiles currently connected to the same parents with the same name, but they have different middle names, spouses (all with same last name of Baker), birth and death dates, as well as different locations. They should not be merged and some are probably not connected to correct parents.

Research

Pertaining to the Research Notes entry (above), The United States Census recorded Mary Johnson's place of birth as Pennsylvania.

  • See sources below.

NOTE: It's curious why Mary's surname appears to be McCoy since both her parents had different last names. Perhaps, McCoy is Mary's middle name like her husband's middle name was Armstrong. In past years, last names were frequently given for middle names. Other surnames, just to name a few, that the family had used for middle names were Lewis, Thompson, Taylor, Johnson, and Armstrong.

Gill, thank you so much for helping me out.

Kathie, there are a couple of duplicates because when I changed the LNAB on Mary McCoy, I lost her original ID number. When this happens, Wikitree says to make a new profile and merge them. I had trouble doing this so I might have made 2 or 3. I'm merging 2 right now. I've asked for help but haven't heard back yet. The parents and sisters were confirmed by the Relationship Finder until I lost McCoy's ID. The sisters were named Mary Johnson, Mary Jane Johnson, and Mary McCoy Johnson. The parents are David Johnson and Agatha Moorman Johnson. If you or anyone knows how to straighten out McCoy's ID numbers, I would appreciate your input. G2G told me that Mary McCoy's original number is gone (McCoy-8863). But, when manually typed in, It works. I hope there is some way we can retrieve it.

Did this family really have four daughters named Mary? Looks like there are either duplicates or children who are attached to the wrong parents...
