Alexander (Alex) McCrary Posted 13 Dec 2015 by meeksdana Alexander was the oldest child of Boyd McCrarey and Charity Merrill. He is listed as a farmer on the 1860 NC Federal Census in the town of Flat Rock, Henderson Co. He married Cyntha Capps and their first child was born about 1845. The couple had 8 children; Susannah, Esther, Sarah, John, Amanda, Daniel, Elizabeth, and Alexander. At some point during the Civil War, Alexander enlisted and became a member of the 69th NC Regiment CSA. In 1901, his widow filed a pension application with the State of NC which stated that her husband Alexander had been, "while in the discharge of his duties as a soldier", captured by the enemy and had died in a Union prison camp. Conflicting records make it difficult to document when he died or in which prison camp he died, but research is continuing.
Alexander was born about 1832. He is the son of Boyd McCrary and Charity Merrill.
