JONESBORO, GA. Judson Edgar McCrary, age 91, of Jonesboro, Ga., formerly of Tuscaloosa, died July 18, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Carl Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mr. McCrary was born April 15, 1918, in Bangor, Wisconsin to the late Rev. William Benjamin and Norma Hays Davison McCrary. He moved to Tuscaloosa as a teenager when his father became pastor of Southside Baptist Church. A veteran of World War II, he served as an Air Cadet in the U.S. Army 677th Bombardment Squadron as a Radio Operator and Mechanic and was stationed in the South Pacific. He worked as a professional photographer employed at Jones Studio in Tuscaloosa and retired in 1981, after working 23 years for The Birmingham News, where he was night foreman of the engraving department. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa where he served as a deacon and is a former member of Gideons International. He and Mrs. McCrary moved to Jonesboro, Ga. two years ago due to health reasons. He is survived by his wife, Frances McGraw McCrary of Jonesboro, Ga., formerly of Tuscaloosa; one son, Reginald Judson McCrary (Sandra) of McDonough, Ga.; one daughter, Anne Hays McCrary Johnston (Mike) of Acworth, Ga.; his grandchildren, Reginald Judson McCrary, II (Deadra), Stephanie Ann Lloyd (Jim), and Robin Leigh Brake (Chris), all of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
