Biography

Jonathan was born in 1813 in Williamson, Tennessee. Jonathan McCready was the son of David McCready/McCrady and Margaret Peck. He remained in Tennessee at least until he was married, although there is an 1830 Census record that could indicate he and his family were in Grayson County, Kentucky earlier - potentially at least long enough to be counted in the Census. Note that most records do not reflect the middle name of "David", and additional information is needed to prove this name.

He married Mary Ann Wheeler on 27 March 1833 in Sumner, Tennessee. (NOTE: Williamson is located just southwest of Nashville, Tenness. Sumner is just northeast of Nashville.) Sometime between 1833 and 1834 (birth of his first child) he and his wife moved to Grayson County, Kentucky. Records indicate they may have had as many as 16 children in total between 1834 and 1869. By the 1850 Census, Jonathan and Mary are shown as having 11 children in their household. By the 1860 Census, Jonathan and Mary as shown as having 10 children in their household and at least 3 had grown up and started families of their own by then. As with a significant number of people of this era, Jonathan was listed as a farmer by trade.

Note that there were records of a "David" McCready who was reportedly provided papers for Tennessee by the Confederacy, but it is very unlikely that this was the same man.[1]

He passed away in 1903 in Grayson County, Kentucky. It is presumed that he was buried on his family farm.[2]
