This is an account of a murder in Westbury in the 1800’s Westbury history

The local chemist in the fifties was Mr. Fred Carpenter, and later Mr.George Miles. In the early sixties Mr.St. Gamble opened a dispensary in the shop at the corner of William and King streets. Dr. McCreery was the local medico, and dispensed his own prescriptians. This action on the part of the only doctor made it very difficult for a local chemist to do anything like a fair business.Mr Gamble, being a progressive man, and considering this action of the doctor unfair to the localchemist, was the means of inducing Dr.Roekett to settle at Westbury. Although Dr. Rockett was a young man, and considered a very skilful physician, he did not remain long. He married Miss Jones, daughter of the late Captain J. P. Jones, J.P., and subsequently removed to Longford. Mr. Gamble, who had made a name for himself with his famous "Gamble's Cough Lozenges," sold out and removed to Melbourne. He married Miss Isabel Robinson, of Westbury. At the death of Dr. McCreery Dr.Dickle took up the practice. He bought that property now owned and occupied by Mrs Busby. After a few years' realdence at Westbury Mr. Dickie died suddenly. The doctor then sold his property to Mr Stonehouse and returned to Scotland. The local chemist was H, P.McCreery, youngest son of Dr.McCreery
