Charles McCubbin was born in 1854, in Quebec (Lower Canada at the time) to Alexander and Margaret (Jeffrey) McCubbin of Stranraer, Scotland. During the 1871 census, he was residing in Ste. Scholastique, Quebec. Charles died in 1895.
