Biography

On pages 30-31 of his book The Ancestral McCurdys Their Origin and Remote History H. Percy Blanchard relates a dramatic and gripping tale of five brothers who escaped from Scotland in an open boat and found refuge in Ireland. (According to Wikipedia H. Percy Blanchard was a Canadian lawyer and science fiction author who is best known of his novel After the Cataclysm: A Romance of the Age to Come.) The brothers were Petheric, David, William, John, and Daniel McCurdy. A facsimile copy of the book can be seen at

Chapter XII, beginning on page 41, is dedicated to Daniel and some of his descendants. Blanchard says the following about Daniel:

"(E) DANIEL McCURDY, “the Refugee,” the fifth and youngest of the brothers, was born about 1650. He had four sons (with no historic knowledge of any daughters), and they located around Ahoghill and County Derry. To these four sons, then, of Daniel may be assigned the approximate birth-dates: James, born in 1678; Samuel, born in 1682; Thomas, born in 1686; and Daniel, born in 1690."
