Jennie was the youngest child of her parents and reported to have been unusually beautiful. It is further stated that she had a "subnormal" child named Patrick McDavid at the time of her marriage to Jesse Rutledge. Another writer states that Jesse Rutledge was disinherited by his father because he married Jennie. Since her family was of good repute, she herself must have been a beauty but with little regard for the talk. This unfortunate gossip must have died away for her daughters were popular and the family generally well thought of.
