Biography

Hattie Mcdaniel was the first African American to win an Academy Award, for Best Supporting Actress in "Gone With the Wind" (1939).

She was the daughter of a Civil War veteran from Wichita, Kansas.

Hattie was married multiple times, and there is insufficient documentation for a number of her marriages. However, based on what information is available, it appears the following marriages are the most likely scenarios:

1) Howard J. Hickman - married from 1911 - 1915 (his death)

2) George Langford - married from 1922 - 1922 (his death)

3) Nym Lankford/Lankfard/Langford - appears to not be related to her previous husband - the marriage dates to Nym are highly questionable, as some researchers indicate that he was married to Hattie from 1918 - 1938, but this conflicts with her marriage to George in 1922 and conflicts with his marriage to Irene Graham, which appears to have been from prior to 1931 to past 1940.[1] - Some researchers appear to believe that he was married to both women at the same time. This is the most questionable of the documented marriages.

4) James Lloyd Crawford - 1941 - 1945 (divorced)

5) Larry C. Williams - 1949 - 1950

6) Tristan Obcemea - 1951 - 1952
