Biography

Third child of Henry and Hannah (Bryan) McDaniel, Jr., Jehu was a farmer in Walnut Township. On August 8, 1851, he was elected President of the Gallia County Agricultural Society.

Jehu, along with his older brother Caleb, served his country in the War of 1812. Also like Caleb, he was a Sergeant in Capt. Butler’s Company of Ohio’s Second Regiment. He enlisted on 9 August 1912 and was discharged 9 November 1913. On 30 March 1855, Jehu along with another brother, Alexander, witnessed Caleb’s affidavit of military service.

Jehu was married twice, first to Elizabeth Boggs on October 14, 1813. Elizabeth died in 1841, four years after the birth of their youngest known child. In the 1850 census, five children and one grandchild were listed with Jehu, but he and Elizabeth had at least ten children.

On August 31, 1851 in Gallipolis, Jehu married Mrs. Sarah Richardson (nee White). Her middle name was Louisa. One child was born to the union.

At his death, Jehu was laid to rest beside his first wife, Elizabeth, in Sandfork Cemetery in Walnut Township. His widow Sarah subsequently married George Carter.
