Nannie Etta McDaniel was born 29 August 1889, in south Arkansas probably in either Columbia or Union counties. Her family consisted of her parents and five siblings.[1]

Father - John E. McDaniel (1854 - 1911)
Mother - Sarah Frances aka Sally Paschal (1858 - 1928)
Calvin Elisa (1888 - 1950)
Nannie Etta (1898 - 1968)
William Edward (1890 - 1972)
Sarah E (1892 - 1959)
Mary Elizabeth (1895 - ????)
John A (1898 - 1910)
Sarah M (1832 - 1922) In 1900 Etta's grandmother Sarah McCain Walker was living with the family.

Merry Christmas!!! On 24 December 1907 Etta married Clarence Harvey Pickering in Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas. [2]

Etta and Harvey had seven children during the span of twenty years, first to last. [3]

John Edward (1908 - 1985)
Winard Calvin born (1911 - 1987)
Herbert Alexander (1913 - 1976)
Nora Frances born (1919 - 2006)
Mary Elinor aka Mamie born (1923 - 2004)
Harvey F. born (1924 - 1945)
Hugh William born (1927 - 1975)

Harvey made the family's living by farming as had his father and grandfather through at least 1920.[4] After oil was discovered in south central Arkansas, Harvey put away the plow, found employment with a crude oil production company, and moved his family to Bridge Creek in Ouachita county, Arkansas.[5] [3]

The 1940 Census has the family living in Washington, Ouachita County, Arkansas. It is not clear if the family moved a few miles from Bridge Creek 1930[3] to Washington 1940[6] or if, for census purposes, the same house was in the Bridge Creek Township in 1930 and the Washington Township in 1940. In any case the family has reduced in size to Harvey, Etta, Harvey F, and Hugh. Harvey continues to be employed in oil production.[6]

By 1951, with the nest empty and the oil production on the decline Harvey and Etta moved to ElDorado, Union county, Arkansas where Harvey was employed as caretaker of the Union county Fair Grounds. They lived on the grounds. [7]

Etta died in 1968 in Arkansas. She was buried in the Village Cemetery at Village, Columbia county, Arkansas along side Harvey’s parents and grandparents. Etta was joined by Harvey about a year later. [8]
