ARTHUR GLENN MCDANIEL was born in 1907. He was the son of George Arthur McDaniel and Mary Jane Mitchell. At the age of three his family left Indiana by train and came to Wexford County, Michigan. He attended Pine Grove Grade School in Grand Traverse County, East Paradise Grade School in Kingsley, Manton Consolidated Grade School, and Greenwood School. In the 7th grade he convinced the school to allow him to take the 8th grade State Examination, which he passed and made him eligible for the 9th grade. He then attended Manton Consolidated High School. After graduation he went to Central Michigan University and received a degree for teaching in High School in 1928. He first worked as a Superintendent for Harlan, Michigan and worked there for 4 years. He married Nellie Creed in 1931 in Wexford County, Michigan. They had 3 children: Baby boy (1931, died at birth); Glenn Arden; and Dallas. He later left his teaching position and received a Bachelor of Science and College Life Teaching Certificate in 1934 from Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science (now known as Michigan State University). He then became Superintendent of Bear Lake Rural Agricultural School at Bear Lake, Michigan. There he also was the instructor for the agricultural department. Nellie and Arthur separated by 1936. He remarried in 1939 to Thursel Clouse in Detroit Michigan. In 1944 he became Superintendent of Dickson Agricultural School at Brethren, Michigan, where he also taught Agricultural-Horticulture classes. By 1948 he was Superintendent for Central Lake schools. He also served on the board of Michigan Association of School Superintendents and later became Vice President of Financial Affairs for Northwestern Michigan College at Traverse City. By 1952 he earned his Masters in Education from Michigan State. In 1955 he became the Superintendent for Harbor Beach Community Schools in Huron, Michigan. He retired from teaching in 1967 and moved back to Manton, Michigan. He then worked a short time as a real estate salesman and for a molded plastic manufacturer. He later worked at the Mitchell State Park for the Department of Natural Resources, working as the Secretary for the Soil District Association until 1977 when he was retired by the state age policy. He then was appointed to the Wexford County District Library Board by the County Court, where he was appointed for eight years. In 1972 they purchased a mobile home and lived in Punta Gorda, Florida, where he resided on Shell Creek during the Winter. In 1990 they sold the property in Florida and moved to Independence Village at Frankenmuth, Michigan. In 1995 he suffered as stroke and became wheelchair bound and had to relearn basic life skills. In 2002 he moved to Crystal Lake Apartments in Mundy Township, Swartz Creek, Michigan. On March 16, 2003 he suffered another stroke and was unable to recover. He died on March 21, 2003 in Goodrich, Michigan.
