Drowning Fatality WILLIAM V. McDONALD. A sad fatality occurred on Good Friday morning near Tunnybuc when Mr. William Vaughan McDonald, aged 46. a dairy farmer, who is well known throughout the Dungog district, lost his life. It. appears that, accompanied by his seven-year-old son, he took the cans of cream across the river on a slide. On the return journey, he sent his son across the suspension bridge, whilst he himself mounted the horse and rode over the slide being drawn behind. The boy noticed their dog jumping at the horse's nose as that animal was climbing the steep bank on the far side of the river. The horse threw up its head and the father fell off. He lay still for a few seconds, and then rolled into the water. The boy rushed home and gave the alarm, but the body of tho father could not be found. First Class Constable Sales and Constable O'Connor were communicated with and soon arrived on the scene. After three hours searching In the river, the water being cold and flowing swiftly, they recovered the body in 10 feet of water, about 150 yards lower down. A Coronial inquiry into the cause of death will be held today. The late Mr. McDonald is survived by a sorrowing widow and five children, the oldest, being seven years of age. As beforementioned he was well and popularly known in the Dungog district. The funeral on Saturday was a large one. Deceased's mortal remains were laid to rest in the Church of England cemetery at Munni, Rev. D. T. Rees reading the last prayers. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs. McDonald and family In their sad loss.
