In Hundredth Year Allen McDonald dies four months before reaching century mark.

Last Christmas the Journal published an article telling that Allan McDonald of Hebron had seen his hundredth Christmas, and that if he lived until July 19thth he would be a hundred years old. Many friends hoped he could see the fulfillment of his desire to reach the century mark, but he passed away Sunday night.

His longevity was a striking example of heredity. His mother lived to be 107 years old and his grandmother 105. A brother reached 97.

Mr. McDonald lived under 24 out of 27 presidents of the United States, having been born in 1822, under the administration of Madison our fourth president.

For eight years he has been blind and for several years his mind has been affected. His son Angus and wife have given him every care, and his declining years were passed as comfortably as possible with the afflictions of age.

Mr. McDonald was born in Glengary County, Canada and during the Civil War he came to the United States, helping to build gun boats in the shipyards at Pittsburg. He moved to Iowa, working as a bridge carpenter on the B & M when the line was built from Afton, Iowa, to Kearney, Nebraska.

Mr. McDonald homesteaded near Ohiowa in 1871, and moved to Hebron in February 1885. His wife died in 1910. Two children having preceded her. The other four children are living in Hebron, Angus, Jim, John and Mrs. Mary Hudson.

Rev. Fr Ress conducted the funeral at Sacred Heart church, Wednesday forenoon. ^[1]
