McDonald-7124 and McDonald-67 do not represent the same person because: Different death date, different husband

Phillips-9876 must have been researching this same family a few years back. Interesting that he brings up the name Synder.

It appears to me that the spouse of this person "John Robert" is the combination of two brothers. Robert, who married Frances Snyder, and his brother John, who married Mary Anne Roebuck and Frances McDonald (some say McDaniel)

SURNAME SNYDER? OR MCDONALD?
posted by Brian (Phillips) Ward
I believe her name was Macdonald. On ancestry, several accounts list that John Raines was married to a women named Snyder, and that Ann was their daughter, but their marriage date is years after Ann was born. Some of the records that are used as proof for the marriage to Snyder actually say Macdonald on them, so I am not sure where people are getting the info that Snyder was the mother of Ann. I have seen documents list Francis's name as both McDaniel and Macdonald. I think this confusion comes from the names actually meaning the same thing. McDaniel is the anglicized form of McDonnell, and McDonnell is one of the anglicizations of Mac Dhomhnuill (the other anglicization being McDonald), so every name listed for her is just a variant of the same name. This was common when immigrants came to the United States, often their name would be anglicized. Also, family names would evolve over time and the spellings would change because there was no set way of how to spell it.
