Ellen McDonnell was born 13th April 1831 [1][2][3][4] in Ballybrannan, Armagh, Ireland, the daughter of Edward McDonnell & Margaret Kennedy.
On 12th September 1855, Ellen McDonnell, aged 25, single, a General Servant, born Bellyblannan, Co. Armagh, Ireland together with her sister Eliza, aged 23, sailed from Liverpool, England on the ship "Bee" and arrived at Sydney New South Wales, Australia on 6th January 1856.[3][4][5][6][7]
In August 1856, Ellen McDonnell was tried at the Maitland Assizes for concealing the birth of a child & sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour at Parramatta Gaol.[8]
Ellen McDonald, age 28, born County of Armagh, spinster, (daughter of Edward McDonald & Margaret Kennedy) & John Watson, age 26, born County of Devon, bachelor, Seaman, of Rockhampton, (son of John Watson & Elizabeth Gardner) were married on 4th June 1860 at Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia according to Law by Frank N. Beddek, Registrar. John signed; Ellen made her mark. Witnesses were Samuel Montgomery & Jeremiah Murphy.[9][10]
Ellen Watson died aged 79 years 8 months 4 days, on 17th December 1910 [1][2] at Main Street, Brookville near Ravenswood, Queensland, Australia & was laid to rest that day at the Ravenswood Cemetery.[2]
