Biography

Thomas James McDonough was born in 1870 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, the son of George McDonough (1839–1874) and Ellen Garvey (1839–1906), both born Ireland.[1] He was apparently moved to Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park on 29 1954.[2]

In the 1900 US Census, Thomas age 29, mail carrier, and his brother Charles age 28, machinist, are boarders in Cleveland.

Thomas married Catherine Lenore Sweeney (1876–1953) on 28 Nov 1900 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[3] Their children were:

  2. Francis Thomas McDonough (1903–1974)
  3. Kathryn McDonough (1905–1991)
  4. Thomas Gerald McDonough (1911–1995)
  5. Rosemary (McDonough) Enright (1913–1997)
  6. Jane Ellen (McDonough) Kergaard Britton (1922-2020)

Thomas passed away at age 69, a retired letter carrier, in 1939 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.[4][2]

Obituary in The Cleveland Plain Dealer Apr 1939: "Thomas J. McDonough Thomas J. McDonough, 69, who was a letter carrier 35 years until forced by ill health to retire seven years ago, died yesterday after suffering a stroke at his home, 1366 W. 116th Street. Most of his work was at Station A. W. 25th Street and Jay Avenue N. W. He was a member of the National Assocation of Letter Carriers and of the Retired Postal Employees Association. Mr. McDonough, who was born in Cleveland, is survived by his wife, Catherine; three daughters, Kathryn, Jane Ellen and Mrs. Rosemary Enright, and two sons, Francis T. and Thomas G. Funeral mass will be held in St. Rose’s Catholic Church at 9 Tuesday morning."
