Important announcement

There is some confusion about this man's mother's marriages and who fathered her children. This confusion can be laid solely at the feet of three Findagrave memorials concerning a fellow named Archibald McDougall. These Findagrave memorials do NOT offer any sources whatsoever for their information. However, there ARE credible sources (see below) for the fact that Elisabeth Scholastica Dubois was married to John McDougall (McDougall-2524) and together they had three sons; Richard (born in 1833), Alfred (born in 1835) and Stephen Ignatius (born in 1836). William Archibald McDougall was the son of Archibald and his wife, not Elisabeth Scholastica Dubois.

If anyone can offer any credible sources that indicate that Archibald McDougall was in any way related to the children of Elisabeth Scholastica Dubois McDougall Fish, please provide this information to the profile manager. Thank you.

I see that you have changed my great-great grandfather Alfred McDougall's father from John to Archibald. I have researched this one extensively, and most of my notes can be found in Alfred's mother's record (Dubois-3661). I am fairly certain that Archibald does not belong in this family (nor does his son William Archibald). The only sources I could find involving Archibald were three Findagrave memorials, and Findagrave is not considered a reliable source. No sources have been found to indicate that Elizabeth Dubois was ever married to anyone other than John McDougall and, later, Thomas Fish.

Page 282 of "Navarre, or, Researches after the Descendants of Robert Navarre" by Christian Denissen, page 282 lists John McDougall as having married "Scholastica DuBois." That document can be found here: https://www.seekingmyroots.com/members/files/G004841.pdf

Page 773 of "Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region" by Rev. Father Christian Denissen shows that John McDougall married Elizabeth Scholastica Dubois and had at least two children, Stephen Ignatius and Alfred. (Their eldest son Richard is not mentioned.) This document can be found here (but must be "checked out" to view): https://archive.org/details/genealogyoffrenc02deni/page/772/mode/2up?q=Scholastica I also have personal family records that show Alfred as the son of John McDougall and Elizabeth Scholastica Dubois. Alfred married Margaret MacLean/McLean, and their daughter Margaret married Thomas Bicknell. Their son Harry was my maternal grandfather. his message is from Carolyn Comings [email address removed] .
