Biography
Joseph Elfeges was born and baptized on 10 March, 1861, in Verchères, Bas-Canada.. He is the son of Joseph McDuff and Eloise Messier. The baptism took place at the church of Saint-François-Xavier and his godparents were Jean Baptiste Geoffrion and Théotique Monjean.
The baptismal record only records his first name of Joseph. The middle name of Elfeges appears later in a census record.[1]
Joseph had a younger brother, baptized as Joseph Hormidas, who was born in January 1864. Sadly, he passed away when he was only three months old, on 12 April 1864. [2].
In 1871, Joseph Elfeges was living with his parents and younger sisters Marie and Rosanna in Roxton Falls, Shefford, in the province of Québec, in the newly formed country of Canada.[3]
Joseph McDuff married Melvina Milotte on the 11th of June 1883 in Fall River, Massachusetts. [4] Melvina and Joseph had at least seven children.
In the 1910 census Joseph (age 46) was the married head of household in New Bedford Ward 1, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States.[5]
Joseph died on 22 May 1932 in Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island, United States at the age of 70 after having suffered from chronic Bright's Disease. He is buried in Notre Dame cemetery, Pawtucket.[18]
Melvina died seven years later on 9 February 1939.[19]
