Michel was born in Boucherville, Bas-Canada on 3 October 1807. He is the son of Charles Mc Duff and Angélique Morand Laforme. He was baptized the next day on 4 October 1807 in the parish of La-Très-Sainte-Famille and his godparents were Baptiste Carrière and Josephette Favreau.
