Biography

Frances McElroy was born about 1749 in North Carolina. She is the daughter of Archibald McElroy and Catherine Simpson of Johnson County, North Carolina. Her surname is spelled in various ways in early records: McKilroy, McKelroy, Mackleroy. She is named as daughter "Frankey" in her father's 1760 Johnston County, North Carolina will.[1]

John Baptist Shaw obtained a license to marry Frances McElroy, 3 Dec 1771, in Wake County, North Carolina. Bondsman: John Humphrys, Avington McKelroy; Witness: John Rice.[2][3]
