Biography

Michael served as a private in the Mexican American War, enlisting June 11, 1846. He was honorably discharged before his year was up in order to return home to help his mother, after their area was hit with a horrific cholera epidemic and his father died. Michael went on to write memoirs about the epidemic that are maintained by historical libraries around the country, due to the very moving writing.[1]
