Biography

Birth date estimated, assuming he was about 25 at the time of his marriage, in June 1908. To be confirmed.

David McEwan was born in Scotland. He travelled from Scotland to New Brunswick, Canada about 1907, with some horses imported by the Provincial Government. He then got a job as a coachman for the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, Lemuel J. Tweedie. As part of his duties, he often drove the Lieutenant Governor's daughter, Mamie.

In June 1908, David and Mamie eloped. They each travelled to St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and together crossed the bridge into Calais, Maine, where they found a clergyman to marry them. They later travelled to Montreal by train, and then sailed to Scotland, in steerage.
