Joseph Donald McFarland, 1876-1947, was the son of William J. McFarland and Rose Cole (1847 England-1919 Utah). He married Martha Jane Faddies on 13 April 1900 in Weber, Utah. They had nine children. Joseph died in 1947 in Park City, Utah. His wife, Martha Faddies (1880 Utah-1926 Utah) was the daughter of Robert Faddies (1838-1886) and Elizabeth Miller (1848-1882). [1]

In 1901, the McFarland family lived in Alberta, Canada. They were of Scotch ethnicity, and were members of the LDS Church. Joseph McFarland, 25, was born in the US. His wife, Martha, 21, was also US born. Their son, William, an infant, was born in Alberta. [6]

McFarland, 34, born in Utah, a coal mining pipe fitter; his wife of ten years, Martha, 30, born in Utah, who had had five children; their five children, William R., 9, b. Canada; Rose T., 7, b. Joseph McFarland, 42, registered for the WWI draft in 1918 in Ogden, Utah. He was born 6 February 1876, and previously worked as a pipe fitter for Nevada Consolidated Copper Company. He was ill when he registered. Joseph was of medium height and slender build, with blue eyes and light hair. He lived with his wife, Martha at 851 30th, Ogden, Utah. [8]
In 1920, the McFarland family lived in their rented house at 851 30th St., (Ogden) Weber, Utah. The household included Joseph McFarland, 43, born in Utah (father b. Scotland; mother b. Eng.), a self-employed house carpenter; his wife, Martha, 39, born in Utah (parents b. Scotland); their eight children, Leroy, 18, b. Canada; Thelma, 17, b. Canada, a telephone operator; Pearl, 15, b. Canada; Joseph, 13, b. Wyoming; Elizabeth, 11, b. Wyoming; Flora, 6, b. Wyoming; David, 4, b. Utah; and Martin, 1, b. Utah. The children aged 6-15 were in school. [9]
His wife died in 1926.
In 1930, the McFarland family lived at 851 30th St., Ogden, Utah. All members of the household were born in Utah, except as noted. The family included Joseph McFarland, 52, who owned their house that was valued at $2500, a carpenter, and not a veteran; his sons, Joseph M., 21, born in Wyoming, a wholesale shipping clerk, and not a veteran; David F., 14; and Martin C., 11. The McFarland home at 851 30th St. Ogden, where they lived from at least 1918-1930, was built in 1891, and still stands. It has three bedrooms and 1192sf. It is a wood frame house with a hipped roof. [11]
Joseph McFarland and Mrs. Martha B. Jensen, both widowed, were married on 15 May 1937 in Weber, Utah. It was the second marriage for both. Joseph was born 6 February 1879 in West Weber, Utah, the son of William McFarland and Rose Cole. Martha was born 15 August 1880 in Portage, Utah, the daughter of Joseph McKay and Jane Smith. [12]
In 1940, they lived at 3996 ? Street in South Ogden town, Weber, Utah. They rented their house for $15 per month. Joseph McFarland, 64, was a carpenter (building construction) who had worked 22 weeks in 1939, earning $300. His wife, Martha, was 60. They were both born in Utah, and each had completed the eighth grade. [13]
Joseph McFarland, 71, was found dead in his bed on 28 July 1947. He resided at 2268 Washington, Ogden, Utah. He had lived in Ogden for 35 years. Joseph was born 6 February 1876 in West Weber, Utah, the son of William McFarland (b. Scotland) and Rose Cole (b. Eng.). A widower, his wife’s name was Martha Jensen. Joseph was a miller and carpenter. The informant to his death was (his son) Martin C. McFarland. The cause of death was undetermined, but ruled a natural cause. He was buried at Ogden City Cemetery. Buried with him there are his wife Martha (Faddis), 1880-1926; three of his children: 15 day old infant daughter, Mary R., 1904-1904; six year old son, Robert F., 1911-1918; son Martin C., 1918-1970, and his wife and daughter.
