Dear Geoffrey, thank you for your prompt attention. In answer to your question about the spelling of Macfarlane, I can only tell you John Macfarlane and his children all used Mac. His eldest son Esmond (not Edmond) and his 2 sons use big "Fs", the rest of Esmond's siblings use small "fs". As to when and where "Mac" started from "McF" I am unsure. I know most of the 'Hamilton' and other Victorians use "McF". I think a lack of literacy back in our history may have been to blame. FYI, Don & Bet - m.14/03/1944 Bordertown, after Bet's death 06/05/2017 Don's ashes were recovered from Centennial Park and both his and Bet's ashes interned in the Bordertown S.A. Cemetery. Regards, Wayne Macfarlane.
