Biography

Mary was born in 1857. She was the daughter of C.d. McFarlane and Marion Muir.

People who held passports to the Tasmanian Exhibition of 1891-92. Place of Residence: Charles Street Launceston Tasmania Australia This is possibly the Miss McFarlane who sang soprano in the Exhibition Choir in 1891-92. She also took part in a Grand Exhibition Concert on 18 Nov 1891 as a soloist in a presentation of Haydn's 'Creation'. Mary Davidson McFarlane was the third daughter of CD McFarlane, of 'Strathalbyn', South Australia. She resided in Launceston for two or three years before her marriage to WW Goodhart on 27 Nov 1897 in the Anglican Church at Esperance, South Australia. Mr Goodhart was the manager of the local branch of the Adelaide Steamship Company. Mary's brother, WY McFarlane, might have been the William McFarlane who lived in Charles Street, Launceston, at the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition. [1]


She married William Goodhart. Williams brother is artist John Goodhart, Broken Hill and Victor Habour. They lived in Esperance, Western Australia in late 1890s and at St Peters, South Australia later on.

Marriage of W. W. Goodhart, (1897, November 26). The Port Augusta Dispatch, Our one-time townsman, as will be seen by the following from the Esperance Times of October 27, has taken unto himself a wife Quite a large number of valuable presents were received by the bride and bridegroom on the auspicious occasion.—" Yesterday Esperance was en Jite in honor of the marriage of a lady and gentleman who have been residents of the Bay for some considerable time, and are both well known and deservedly popular. The shipping in the harbour was gaily clothed in many-colored bunting. The contracting parties were , Mr W. W, Goodhart, manager of the Adelaide Steamship Company's local branch, and Miss Mary Davidson McFarlane, of " Sea View," third daughter of the late Mr C. D. McFarlane, of Strathalbyn, S.A. The nuptial ceremony was performed at the Anglican Church, at 10 a on., by the Bev. Alfred Burton, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends of the bride and bridegroom. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr W. Y. McFarlane. She was supported by Miss May McFarlane as bridesmaid, Mr J. M Dickson acting as best man. The" Wedding March" was played by Miss Pro vis. The bride looked exceedingly well in a travelling dress of fawn lustre and dark green shot silk, with dark green velvet hat and jacket She carried a handsome bridal bouquet. The bridesmaid wore a cream silk, with apricot hat and sash, and carried a pretty bouquet of nasturtums. Mr and Mrs Goodhart then drove from the Church amid showers of rice and other missile-tokens of good wishes. They proceeded to the jetty where they went on board the s s. Herbert and were taken to the s.s. Flinders, accompanied hy a large number of friends. By the Flinders they proceeded shortly afterwards to the Dnke of Orleans Bay, where their honeymoon is to be spent."[2]

Child: David/william jr Goodhart of Harrow Rd, College Park. His widow in 1981 was at the christian Homes, Everard Park. he has no children.

She passed away in 1925.
