Biography

Robert McFerrin Sr is Notable.

Robert McFerrin was an American opera singer. Beginning as a member of his father's church gospel choir, Mr. McFerrin continued to study music while in high school.

He attended college first at Fisk University. After winning a scholarship competition, he transferred to Chicago Music College. He earned his degree from that institution in 1948.

Robert McFerrin was the first African-American man to sing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, within the same month as African-American Marian Anderson, the first to perform there.
