Marty Polly McGee married Daniel Burgin on 13 December 1808 in Upson County, Georgia. [2]
In the 1850 U.S. Census, Mary is enumerated living in District 1 of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and is listed as the wife of Daniel Burgin. Mary's age in this census is listed as 65 years old with a birth year of 1785 in Maryland[3]
In the 1870 U.S. Census, Mary is enumerated at 86 years of age and she states that her birth state is in Georgia. Mary is living with her grandson Thomas Jefferson Hickman in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. [4]
Daniel and Mary had the following children:
Daniel August Burgin married Mary Frances McGee in Warren County, Georgia on December 13, 1806. Many record the marriage as 1808 and as Polly McGee but it was recorded in 1808 and Polly was another name (or common nickname) for Mary. In all other official documents she is listed as Mary. Mary was born February 15, 1785 in Maryland, died December 25, 1870/76. She was buried in Bucksville Cembetery. (The tombstone inscription has death as December 25, 1870. So does M. M. Ragsdale. However several historical magazines who have examined the family Bible list death date in 1876, noting the discrepancies in the dates.) Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Judith McGee who were living in Columbia County when Josiah died in 1818.[5]
