Bryce was born in Girva on 30th March 1842 and baptised there on 31 Mar 1842. His parents were Andrew McGill and Elizabeth Cavens. [1]
In 1851 Bryce was estimated to be 10 years old and living at Girvan Mains Farm, Girvan with his parents, siblings and grandfather, James Cavans. [2]
