Sue was born in 1909, the 7th of 11 children to William Tilden McGinnis and Ada Pearl Griffith. Her siblings were: Mary Katherine, Henry Edward, Perry A, Annie C, Lucy Adeline, John Tilden, Florence, Jacob Astor, Ruth, and Waunetta Gertrude.
