Biography
James McGlaughlin was born 26 December 1802, presumably at his parents' homestead on Jacksons' River seven or eight miles below Monterey in what was then Bath County, and now Highland County, Virginia. He died 22 October 1862 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Son of John McGlaughlin (1764–1838) and Anne Wiley (1769–1841).
James McLaughlin married Catherine "Kitty" Sproule on 25 May 1826 in Bath County, Virginia.

James was enthused by the gold excitement of 1849 & crossed the plains to California in search of wealth. He had some measure of success & returned to his family & settled in Missouri[1].
