Biography

John was the sixth of seven children in the family of Terrence and Mary O'Reilly McGowan. [1] He grew up on the family farm in Grey Eagle township, Todd County, Minnesota.[2] The family moved to Redstone, Montana, by 1917, according to his brother's draft registration.

John was not living with his family in 1920. He may have been living in Cosmopolis, Washington, working as a laborer in a sawmill.[3]

By 1926, John was identified as a rancher in Douglas, Arizona. John died of tuberculosis in Douglas at age 26.[4] His permanent address was listed as Redstone, Montana, where his parents had been living since about 1917. He had been suffering from TB for four years according to his death certificate. The informant for his death was Mary McGowan, likely his sister, though possibly his mother, who was living in Rodeo New Mexico. He was to be buried in Douglas.[5]
