Biography
William McGowan married Susan Hunter at Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland on the 20th of September, 1834.[1] They had two children, Ann McGowan born in 1837, and William McGowan born in 1838. William's occupation was recorded on his son's original birth document as Shipmaster [Ship's Master].[2]
Research Notes
William's birth year is estimated in relation to his marriage in 1834. He didn't appear in Census data with his wife and family in 1841 and may have died before that date. Susan Hunter remarried before 1847 and so it is assumed William died sometime between 1837 and 1847.
