Biography

Cecelia was born in 1851.[1]

On the 20th of November, 1872, Celia married Patrick Nestor in Kilbeacanty, Gort, County Galway. [2]

She passed away in 1890 based on her gravestone.[3]

Research Notes

There is a discrepancy between Cecilia's birthyear on her gravestone (1830) vs her age as listed on the record of her marriage (age 21 in 1872). Also, although the death year is clearly 1890 on the gravestone, there is no record of a death in all of Ireland for Cecilia or Celia McGrath in that timeframe.

Starting with the birth of Cecilia's son, Joseph, in 1885, her name is recorded as Sarah on birth records and on the 1901 Census. Based on information from the Irish Genealogical Society International, found on their website on 15 July 2023, Sarah is a nickname for Cecilia.

In 1901, Patrick Nestor, 50, was living in house 9 in Laghnyshaughnessy (Beagh, Galway) along with his wife Sarah Nestor, 50. Their children, John Nestor, 21, Patrick Nestor, 18, Joseph Nestor, 15, and Sarah Nestor, 9, were also living with them. To further complicate it, there was another Patrick Nestor who was married to a Sarah (Quinn) in Gort in 1892. Probably not really in play here, but noting it so it's tracked:

Patrick married Sarah Quinn on 1 March 1892 in the Gort Superintendent Registrar's District.
