Biography

Ann or Agnes was born in 1785 to William Gregor and Jane Crerar. On 17 Jun 1810 she married William Crockart in Methven. William was a toll keeper and they had seven children together. Ann appears on the 1841 census living with her husband in Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland. She had apparently died before 1851, because at that point her husband was living alone.

Children with William Crockart:

  • Robert Crockart b 2 JUN 1811, married Margaret Thompson, died 1904
  • William Crockart b 27 Jul 1813, married Elizabeth Smith
  • Jannet Crockart b 12 Aug 1815
  • James Crockart b 5 Apr 1817 married Helen Anderson and was a gun maker
  • Andrew Crockart b 18 Nov 1819,
  • Ann Crockart b 20 FEB 1822, married Thomas Stewart
  • Margaret Crockart b 3 JUN 1824

Research Note

Ann's parent's were determined by the fact that in 1851 William Crockart was living with a niece name "Mary Fisher". There were no Mary Fishers born to Crockart mothers, but there was a Mary Fisher born at the right time to a Margaret Gregor. Additionally Mary is missing from the Margaret Gregor Fisher family in 1851. I therefore concluded that Margaret and Ann were sisters. Margaret lived long enough to have a death certificate, which lists her parents as William Gregor and Jane Crerar. Therefore Ann was probubly the Agnes born to William and Jane in 1785
