DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Margaret by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Margaret:
I have yet to find proof as to the birth date and family of Margaret McGregor Hosie. On Ann Merk Mackie's (my 4xggm's) death certificate "Margaret McGrigor was listed as her mother, who afterwards was the wife of John Hosie, weaver." They all lived in Bridgend, Cabrach, Banffshire, (remote and tiny) and it's assumed Ann Merk was illigitimate as no father was listed on her death certificate. But my Ann Merk was born around 1786, (stated on her death certificate) which would make Margaret McGrigor just a child if the 1778 birthdate is held true! Ann Merk died in 1863. I share DNA with the McGrigor line via the Hosie and Leslie families which came from Margaret McGrigor and John Hosie's chldren. I just think there's a disconnect here that hasn't been discovered, as a lot of crucial dates in the OPR in the Cabrach are sadly missing. I see that the Find a Grave source has been placed on the profile, but I'm uncertain as to what the truth or real story is about this Margaret McGrigor.
