Biography

Arbie Cook "A.C." McGregor was born about 15 November 1886 in Dawson Springs, Hopkins, Kentucky, United States.^[1] It is certain that he was born on 15 November, but the year varies in different records between 1886 and 1888.^[1][2][3][4] Birth year "1886" was inscribed on his tombstone.^[5] Since he provided the information on his draft card, including his birth date and place, it seems likely that his birth year was 1886. He was the son of William Franklin McGregor and Anna Mary Dockery.^[2][4] In the 1900 U.S. Census, he was recorded as 13-years old living in his hometown with his parents, Frank W. and Annie M. McGregor.^[2]

He was married 26 December 1907 in Hopkins County, Kentucky to Vannie Hendrix. Note, the record shows his name as Archie McGrigor.^[6] In the 1910 U.S. Census, he was recorded as "Arbry McGriggor", age 23, living at the "Hendrix House" in Dawson Springs with wife Vannie, age 23. He was employed as a traveling salesman. His mother-in-law, Mrs. E.W. Hendrix was the proprietor of the "Hendrix House". His parents lived next door.^[3]

By 1912, "Arbie C. McGregor" was living in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas, where he worked as a clerk in a drug store.^[7]

His registration for the United States military draft, on 5 Jun 1917, refers to requested exemption due to "poor health". He was still married and was working as a traveling salesman for A.C. Compton & Company, Chicago, Cook County Illinois, United States. ^[1]

His death, on 12 August 1917 in Nortonville, Hopkins, Kentucky, resulted from pulmonary tuberculosis. He was buried in the Rosedale Cemetery, Dawson Springs, Hopkins County, Kentucky, on 14 August 1917.^[4][5]
