Obituary

Herbert & Elaine Schweiger, long time LaCrosse residents, passed away within a day of each other. Elaine, 85, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 22, 2007 and Herbert, 95, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007. Private family funeral services will be held and burial will be at the LaCrosse Cemetery.

Herbert Francis Schweiger was born January 4, 1912 in LaCrosse to Joe & Emma Swanson Schweiger. He graduated from LaCrosse High School and farmed the family ranch. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served during World War II in the 741st Flying Team Squadron. After basic training in California, Herbert served overseas in France where he was in charge of German prisoners in the stockades. He also spent a short time in Germany as an aviation mechanic. Honorably discharged as a Corporal, he returned to LaCrosse.

Marjorie Elaine McGuinness was born July 29, 1921 in Alberta, Canada to Mac & Vera Kennedy McGuinness. She graduated from St. Mary’s Girl’s School in Calgary and worked for Warner Brothers Studios in Calgary. She moved to Spokane where she worked as an executive assistant to the Dean of Gonzaga University. It was in Spokane where she met Herbert and the couple married September 16, 1950 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

They built their home in LaCrosse where Herbert worked the family ranch and they raised their four children. Elaine was active in LaCrosse Farm Club, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society and Herbert loved gardening and going to the horse races.

They are survived by their four children; Nola Schweiger, Connie (Tad) Williams and Faye Broeckel all of Seattle, WA. and Joe (Kirsten) Schweiger of Spokane; 6 grandchildren; Jennifer Adams, Jeff Broeckel, Joseph, Bram, Anna Belle and Eli Schweiger; 2 great-grandchildren; Grady and Sidney Adams and Herbert’s brother, Robert Schweiger of Colfax. They were both preceded in death by their parents.

Herbert & Elaine would most appreciate remembrances to be through prayers and Masses in their honor.

Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family. [1]
