Biography

Elen Fergurson McGuire was born in 1879, probably registered as Alice.[1] Elen was named after her grandmother, Elen Ferguson. Her middle name was recorded as Fergurson on her marriage certificate, the R added between the U and S. Her grave marker has it inscribed as Fergeson.

Elen married Charlie Watt in 1902.[2][3] They lived at Tomerong, NSW, and had four children: Isabel Elizabeth (1904), Elen Winifred (Winnie) (1913), Beatrice Margaret (Trixie) (1916), and Allan Charles (1917).

Elen died on the 6th of March, 1957,[4][5][6] and was buried at the Nowra General Cemetery.[7]

Research Notes

Spelling of Elen's middle name:

Elen was named after her grandmother, Elen Ferguson, but that was not her preferred spelling. Her middle name was recorded as Fergurson on her marriage certificate, the R added between the U and S in multiple places.

Her grave marker has Fergeson as her middle name, and her birth and death appear in the NSW BDM index as Ferguson.
