Daniel McGuirk was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales
Daniel McGuirk was an Australian Bushranger
Daniel was born about 1789 in Casterahan, Cavan, Ireland.
He had been sentenced to transportation for life for burglary and was transported to Australia on the Martha in 1818.[1] The Behans, who also settled in the Black Springs area and also married into the Grady family, were transported on the same ship.[2]
Daniel reoffended several times and, along with his son Thomas and son in law Patrick Grady, were charged with bushranging with firearms in 1846. Daniel was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1846 for 7 years. He left Honora with 10 children, although 2 daughters had married. The eldest Ann had been murdered and she had three children, which no doubt were being looked after by Honora. Honora's youngest child was 3 years old. Daniel returned to NSW after his sentence had expired and he died in 1867. Honora died one month later.[5][6]
Daniel died on 23 Jul 1867 in the Bathurst region of New South Wales. [7] Daniel is buried in Fish River Creek Cemetery, Fish River. [8]
