James I was a soldier under Captain Samuel Reid in the War of the American Revolution. His name is on the Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American Revolution--Page 601--North Carolina State Library, Raleigh, North Carolina.[1]

Revolutionary War Record: Rowan County Regiment, 8/9/1780, a known Private under Capt. Samuel Reid and Col. Francis Locke.[2]

Parents: Alexander McHargue (1725–1789) and Agnes Cowan McHargue (1725–1760)
