Deanna was born in 1959 in Los Angeles, California. [1] She is the daughter of Gerald McHugh and Marjory Beckley. Marjory was also born in California.
In 1977, she graduated from Fontana High School, Fontana, San Bernardino County, California.
She moved to San Francisco, California on June 1, 1986.
She began working for the University of California School of Nursing in August 1986. She began working for the Office of Research Affairs in February 1989. The units she worked in were later reorganized and renamed the Office of Research Administration and the Office of Sponsored Research. She retired in June 2015.
She moved to West Virginia in October 2017.
